The latest Tex & Clem strip opens with an honest question: what in tarnation is an automobile? By the end of four panels, Pistol Pete is behind bars for stealing one — a defense that runs into a small problem, since the automobile in question hasn't been invented yet.
The Strip
Titled "The Automobile," the strip follows Pistol Pete's arrest and his increasingly desperate attempts to explain to Tex that the whole charge doesn't add up, historically speaking. It's the latest in a growing lineup of Old West gags that lean on the gap between what Tex and Clem's world knows and what's still a few decades out.
